  • ATEM Production Studio 4K Live Switcher–is this what I need?

I am an amateur streamer for a local high school. I have just switched to a Mac Studio from a Windows system, and so need new capture equipment. I have tried a couple of 4K USB capture devices that have been very unreliable so far, so I’m looking for something a bit more robust.

Would the Studio 4K Live Switcher work for this setup:?

Three (maybe 4) 4K JVC cameras (HDMI), outputting to a Mac Studio running Wirecast to send out the actual stream. I take the audio from my ‘main’ camera. I’m assuming there would be no way to select camera shots from within Wirecast–correct?

I’m hesitant to buy anything at this point because there seems to always be something in the specs that I overlook or don’t understand, and then I end up with something that doesn’t work. This was so much easier with a PC and 1080p!

Hello Jerel. You mentioned the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K for a switcher. Your cameras are HDMI so if you use this ATEM, you will need to convert HDMI to SDI possibly using the Micro Converter HDMI to SDI for each. The ATEM does not capture but has SDI outputs. So you would need a capture device such is the Ultrastudio 4K Mini to get 4K video in the computer. The ATEM would let you switch sources and feed any audio to the computer for streaming. But I will say these are the possibilities using Blackmagic gear in your question. There are other solutions that do not use Blackmagic gear which may be more suited for your needs which I am unable to talk about. The above list may be a bit overkill based on your description. I hope this helps. Gary

I think we’re talking about two different things. On B&H website, the photos and text for the ATEM Production Studio 4K indicates 4 HDMI inputs and an HDMI output (along with SDI)
