  • ATEM HDMI inputs support computer outputs?

Posted by Jason J rodriguez on October 17, 2011 at 8:43 pm

    Hi,

We were wondering if the HDMI inputs on the ATEM switch will support the DVI-D outputs of a computer, or if the timing for the input over HDMI is really strict, and therefore computer support is pretty “iffy”.

We would like to have the capability of using a MacBook Pro with it’s second monitor output set to 720/60P as a source, but are wondering whether we’ll need another HDMI->HD-SDI converter in between the computer and the ATEM, or if the ATEM will work directly with the monitoring output from the MacBook Pro.

    Thanks,

I use a MBP with minidisplay to hdmi adapter and it works great. just make sure to use the same settings as the cameras and us extended desktop and not mirrored, then you’ll get black borders on the side.

I too use a MacBook Pro with DVI to HDMI adaptor, and go directly into the ATEM HDMI input. Just make sure to boot up the MAC AFTER you have connected the cable to the ATEM. Just dont’ take a MacBook Pro while it is on, and then plug in the cable to the ATEM and say “this doesn’t work” (I did that !!!!).

The FrameSync input will lock up the MacBook Pro, so you can enter graphics, and dissolve to cameras, etc. It works great – no need for an Ensemble MITTO or Matrox DVI to HDSDI converter.

I am coming out of my DELL XPS laptop with a DVI to HDMI cable to the ATEM TVS and . . . . the ATEM will not even show up as a display on the DELL to allow me to go dual-view. I have rebooted with the cable connected . . . nothing.
PLEASE HELP! How can I get my TVS to accept my laptop so I can run it as an input source?

    Hi Joe,
you may check that the PC HDMI refresh rate meets the one of your video system.
