  • ATEM failure — replacement question / sync

Our 38 month old ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio rack unit failed. Dead.
I have been using it with 2 Sony cameras and connecting sync between the Production Studio and the cameras at the suggestion of the installer. I need to keep the latency as low as possible because the output of the switcher is being projected onto large IMAG screens in our church. When our pastor turns quickly or moves his arms, etc, I need the minimal lag possible between the LIVE and projected images. I was told that running the extra sync cables in my system would help accomplish that.
Looking to replace this dead Production Studio with the M/E Production Studio 4K, I see that there is no Sync connection any longer on the 4K unit.
My question is this: Will the latency I mentioned become a worse problem with the 4K versus my old unit without these Sync connections?
Any insight would be very helpful as I make a decision later today.

    Thank you.

Hello Greg. All of the ATEM switcher models have reference input for genlocking. And they all have similar latency.

    Thank you, Gary.

One more question please. Does the ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K have an Aux output that lets me do a Center Cut of the full image for use in non-wide screen projection?

I couldn’t be sure when checking on the BMD web site.

    I appreciate your help.

The Auxiliary output allows switching of any of the sources, internal or external to a separate output. It has no effects capability by itself.
