ATEM 1 M/E Live Use
Hey all,
I’ve just about lurked every forum, site, blog, etc. there is about the ATEM switchers and downloaded every update the day they were released since I’ve received the unit. The purpose of it was to be the center of our live stream we have at a gaming LAN. I did a whole lot of research and pieced together the array of video equipment needed to run a successful show and it indeed go pretty smoothly with a few minor bumps.

The quality was simply amazing. The only problem was that one of the guys working there put the ATEM on a cloth covered table and the ATEM ended up overheating and the inputs sort of bled together every now and then (I’ll probably just warranty it). I also did notice that feeding the Program Output to an Intensity Pro into a PC running Adobe FMLE turned the 1080i59.94 into 1080p29.97. It looked great so I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I do want to know why it does this.
One of the things I did want to ask you guys is that we use two XLR microphones (https://www.amazon.com/Shure-WH20XLR-Dynamic-Microphone-Cardioid/dp/B0001DBZNM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331096080&sr=8-2) and extend the short 4′ cable that comes with it, about another 20′. I noticed that the microphones won’t really pick up that much sound even with the gain and sliders turned all the way up. Would using a amplifier help or would buying a lavalier microphone be the best bet for quality and sound pickup? It would need to at least not have the gain all the way up so we do not pick up ambient sounds of players screaming, etc.
I am actually a programmer and not a video/audio guy in the slightest. I thought about using the ATEM SDK and using it in conjunction with the CasparCG software to have a good playback setup. Basically you would run the program (that I have yet to make) on the PC with CasparCG on it and have it listen to an input you tell it to (your playback input). Once that input is triggered live, it would automatically have CasparCG begin playing back the videos.

A lav would work well as the audio levels from a lav can be adjusted up or down in the Lav unit.
