Assn. fx routing in V6
Posted by Brianpa on May 12, 2007 at 6:18 pmI can’t seem to route an assn. fx from a vocal track, the fx bus is not in the bus list. What am I doing wrong?
What is the proper routing method, track to fx bus to bus a-b-c?Gary Kleiner replied 19 years ago 3 Members · 11 Replies -

May 12, 2007 at 6:48 pmAny bus you add to the master mixer should appear as a choice on each audio track header.

What do you mean by “Master Mixer”?
When I add an assn fx like delay or reverb it puts it in as fx 1 or fx 2 on the bus header but it is NOT on the list in the track header when I click on the bus box. -

May 13, 2007 at 4:07 amIf you want to assign an FX to a bus, add the a bus using the insert bus button on the master mixer (where the audio meters are).
To see the audio bus tracks, hit the b key. You may need to drag the bus section upwards to see all of them.
Ad your FX to a bus, then route whatever audio tracks you want to that bus.

May 13, 2007 at 4:25 amI understand how to add a bus. What I am trying to do is route a vox track to assn fx 1 ( which is simple delay) When I click on the bus box in the vox track it does not have assn fx 1 listed. It only has A B C … and Master.I can’t get a signal to the fx buss.
I did hit the b key and it now has the buses up under the tracks. Why do I need them there? I guess I’m missing something here!Any other audio program would have a simple “send” button.

May 13, 2007 at 5:28 amEvidently the paradigm you are trying to apply is not the way Vegas works.
Apply FX by either adding it to the media, event, or track, or you can apply it to a bus and send the track output to the bus (A,B,C, etc).

Not sure we are taking about the same thing here, getting very frustrated….
I’m not talking about adding an effect to a track, bus or event…
I know how to tdo this.I,m talking about an “AUDIO ASSIGNABLE FX” from the insert menu. When I insert an audio assignable fx ie: delay in puts it in a bus in the mixer labeled #1 How do I get my VOX track routed to this bus? IT DOES NOT appear in the vox track bus list.
Also, when I route AUDIO ASSIGNABLE FX #1 to bus A (my vox bus),
it does nothing because there is no audio routed through fx #1.
BTW the vegas help file is pretty lame when it comes to this procedure. -

May 13, 2007 at 8:38 pmLet me see if I can explain things in a different way:
You have audio tracks. Audio tracks can be routed to the main mix or can be routed to a bus.
You have effects. Effects can be added on ANY track whether it’s a regular audio track or a bus track.
If you add an effect to a regular track, you adjust it from that regular track.
If you add an effect to a bus track, you adjust it from that bus track.
You DON’T route from a regular track to a bus effect.

Yes thanks for walking through that and I do under stand about changing effects “IN the track” or in the bus at the mixer, maybe my question then shoud be… is there any way to adjust the “amount” of effect let’s say DELAY by using the slider (knob) in a mixer bus? in Adobe or Sonar these are called “SENDS” You can have for instance SEND #1 sends your audio signal to a delay effect channel, send #2 might send it to a chorus effect channel.
You adjust the amout of delay or chorus (satuation) by using the slider up or down depending on your taste. I thought that this was how “Assignable effects” worked but I guess I’m wrong because these fx buses that I added aren’t doing anything because I can’t get a signal to them or from them. -

May 14, 2007 at 1:35 amYou can either adjust the FX by opening the FX dialog where it’s applied.
If you want adjust it over time, you can use envelopes on the variables of assignable FX at the track level (icon in upper right of FX dialog)by adding points anlong the track and dragging them up and down.Gary Kleiner

May 14, 2007 at 10:05 pmGary,
I found what I was looking for in the V6 manual( pge 47) that I downloaded
Here’s how you send a signal from a track to an assignable fx bus…
Turn automation button off, click on pan box at the all-purpose slider
scroll down till you see the bus fx listed ie: fx#1 This sends a track signal to the bus so now you can just set an effect at 100% wet and adjust the amout by using the bus fader.Makes things alot easier when you are doing multitrack audio
