I am trying to assist my daughter to create music videos, particularly the multi screen type and I need help determining which would be the best to go with. I have used Final Cut Pro X, but my Mac crapped out a while back, and so I am out of touch and probably need to relearn something new. I have checked out several editors in the 80 to 100 dollar range but now I am just confused. I would greatly appreciate any assistance anyone can give me.

    Hi Robert,
Non-Linear Editors can be complex and confusing. I’ve never used the recent FCP X, which I understand is one of a kind.

I’ve found Premiere Pro to be expensive and over-complicated with all its versions, but have recently tried the free DaVinci Resolve 15 which uses a timeline like the old FCP 7 that I used to edit with, and it seems to work fine.

I do use it on a Mac.

    Best,
    Robert

Thanks for the advice. Been doing a lot of googling and DaVinci never popped up. I was kicking around Vegas, Pinnacle and Filmora, but wasn’t comfortable with any of them, DaVinci feels great. And free! Thanks again, see you around.

She can also try Hitfilm and Filmora 9 in addition to Resolve.

Multi-screen videos are something any editing or compositing software can do these days. If she’s going to do a lot of that, the process can be streamlined using plug-in effects in Apple Motion or Adobe AfterEffects, or you can also buy templates that have done the hard part for you, yet they remain easy to modify and customize. MotionVFX.com is my go-to for these.

Haven’t seen Hitfilm yet, I’ll have to check it out. Filmora 8 has a nifty multi screen effect, a drag and drop function, but it got left out of Filmora 9.
Thanks for the info, see you around.
