  • assigning shortcut keys to scripts?

Is there a setting or a super cool hack that can be done to assign a certain script a shortcut key? Specifically, I’m wanting to use the normal precomp keys to run the precomp to layer length script put out by Dan. Anybody got any ideas?

Nope. The script engine cannot be tied to AE’s keys (maybe it will some time in the future, though). The best solution you can probably come up with is to create a master script and create a palette for your scripts. In theory you could also use a master script to watch your keyboard and remap those actions to your needs, but it means that you may also have to re-create standard shortcuts inside this script. Certain key-combos would not work with the script running. In adition to that it would probably slow down your work quite a bit (it would have to run in an infinite loop), so I don’t recommend that approach.

I think I may have found my next project, thanks for the idea.

Before you start, you might want to look at Jeff Amasol’s site…www.redefinery.com. He has a bunch of great scripts inculding a pallete that will run any of your scripts in a specified folder.
