We’re trying to nail down a workflow here. In the past, hdv footage was captured as Pro Res via fw from tape to avoid the hdv codec for several reasons. Now the production wants to skip digitizing and is contemplating the mrc1k compact flash recorder. I know that this captures m2t files. I’ve heard that you can assign a new target codec (Pro Res) for the files as they come in through Log & Transfer. Is this accurate?
Would we be better off using clip wrap?
Is it better to just wrap them as Pro Res and use in FCP or
    Transcode them to Pro Res?
    Sorry for so many ?s
Cow members have always been great!
Thanks in advance for your time.
    Kind Regards,

The m2t files will have to be transcoded to ProRes with something like MPEG Streamclip. Why not an KiPro? That really is the best solution for you I think.

Sorry, I wasn’t crystal clear. The production can ONLY afford the Mrc1k (it’s a 3 cam shoot) for the cameras. Obviously the Ki is the answer, but we don’t have 12k for 3 of them with cards. Anyone have a workflow for the MRC1K????.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi Chris,

Are you not able to rent Ki Pros? That time saved not transcoding in post will cover the cost of the hire anyway.

If not, then MPEG Streamclip is good as you’ve already suggested. No way to convert directly into FCP unfortunately.

    All the best,

I’m not sure if i got your question right but here is my way:
Just go to link below, download the right plugin for your version of FCP and then just drag and drop the card number folder to the log & transfer window.
If you got any error you should do 1 more step, make a new folder inside the card number folder and name it “VIDEO” all capital letter then put the HVR folder inside the “VIDEO” folder then drag the card number folder to log and transfer window.

or like other said just use mpeg streamclip or clipwarp. longer transfer time. (in my experience)
