    Hi There,

I am begining a project where I need to edit 15sec segments from about 10 different DVD’s- my question is:

What is my best option to get the different DVD clips all in the the same aspect ratio- should I import them all in 4:3 or 16:9 from steamclip, or is there a way to make all the clips look like they’re in the same aspect ratio within FCP?? Ideally I want all the clips that I rip looking the same when I start to edit all the footage on the timeline??

I am using Handbrake to rip the DVD’s into MPEG4 then using streamclip to make the files into DV after which I import directly into FCP??

Also can I use streamclip to bypass Handbrake when ripping the DVD’s into DV??

    Thanks very much
    Daniel

I would suggest keeping everything at the aspect ratio it originates as (I’m assuming when you say 4:3 you mean 4:3 Letterboxed and not full screen, correct?) and cutting 4:3 in FCP. You don’t really want to be blowing up 4:3 to 16:9.

Also, to keep everything looking like it came from the same source, more or less, nest your final sequence and put a widescreen filter with what ever aspect conceals your frame lines to keep it looking consistent.
