    Gday,

    A couple of questions;

Im having a hard time trying to export out of PP cs6 (-am queuing into Encore so i can continue to work). The problem is every time I export my video is being letter boxed or stretched, and it seems like no matter what settings i use/customize PP just wants to keep exporting at 4:3. I am currently trying to export for PAL DVD-16:9

My sequence settings are matched to my export settings and these are the steps that have given me the closest result to what I am needing thus far:

    Format: H.264
    1440x 1080
    25fps_ Progressive
    Aspect 16:9
    DV-PAL Widescreen
    Scale to fill
    VBR 2 pass
    Bit rate;
    Target 8
    Max 12
    Profile: main

I have not selected render at maximum depth and have not selected render at highest quality. The export took approximately 12-14 hours.

I played the dvd of the above and have gotten the best results so far-the video didn’t appear stretched horizontally or vertically but I had to modify my 32 inch t.v settings from 16:9 to zoom- to see the video without it being letter boxed. The other problem that I can now see is that there seems to be a crackly- streaky horizontal effect in all the video (with close ups and especially during transitions)..

I was wondering if crackly streaky graphic problem was a render quality problem, bit rate or profile problem- and how the best way to go about fixing it would be?

I have just modified a new export-
same settings as above but have changed bit rate to target 10.14 and maximum 15.96 and checked the render at highest quality- the export is telling me it will take 76 hours- and already it has been going for 24 hours and seems to be slowing down.

Is there something really obvious that I am missing here?

PLEASE HELP- my doco is now two weeks behind its distribution date…!!

If your footage is going to dvd export from Premiere to mpeg2-dvd widescreen, upper field.
Import that into Encore, make menu and burn. This way you footage does not get encoded again.

If you are exporting to H264 1440×1080 the aspect ratio should be HD anamorphic 1.33.

    Hi Ann,

My footage was shot in 1920 x 1080- however when I bring it into the sequence and ready for export it shows 1440 x 1080 1.333- Im not 100 certain on why this happens, but believe its related to it being high definition.

In the past when i have tried exporting to H.264 and selected aspect ratio HD anamorphic 1.33 the final product once burnt onto DVD was letterboxes and churned out at 4:3

    Im using PP cs6-

I will try the DVD MPEG/dvd option-

BTW- should i need to select render at higher quality options, or need to change bit rate to a specific rate?
Thanks so much for your help!

with the PP cs6 version- i can’t find the MPEG2 -dvd widescreen option? is this p2-movie? Or is there another option/ I was always under the impression all DVD’s had to be H.264 format.

I am requiring a PAL and NTSC version, but the PAL is the priority. When I select the HD anamorphic 1.33 option my export is still letterboxed. The closest success I have had was selecting the scale to fill option, with DV-PAL Widescreen 16;9 option (progressive) This option resulted in no black borders, but seemed to give a scratchy horizontal effect through most the video- especially with close ups and transitions where I used fades.

I have used the same camera in all of the video NIKON D7000-

I’m just wondering what this scratchy horizontal effect in the graphics is being caused by, and how to fix it- would it be the progressive vs upper/lower selection?

    Thanks in advance for feedback!

Ah, I assumed as you settings were 1440×1080 it was hdv.
Which version of premiere and is the latest update installed.
DVD has always been mpeg2 and not h.264
    What are your sequence settings.
Preferably a screendump of your exportsettings.

    Hi Ann,

Im new (if you haven’t already been able to see from my efforts of trouble shooting) to using cs6 and there is no MPEG 2- DVD option available.

I shot in 1920 x 1080 video-as i wanted to make high quality DVD but also to generate a good quality video for downloads as well..AS it appears there is no MPEG 2 DVD selection in my CS6, I have been told by various PP users that I should be able to exp[ort out with H2.64 and convert to DVD either in encore or with Toast or other software.

When I bring the 1920 x 1080 clips into the timeline its converting automatically to 1440 x 1080- I understand that to make a DVD i need to change the settings for export and this is done via selecting the MPEG 2-DVD option- however this menu selection is simply not offered in the CS6 version… I have and a fellow colleague who has just purchased the full cs6 suite and this is also not available in his copy… but available in his cs5 version..is there some kind of upgrade i can do, that won’t effect the ability to export without problems to get the mpeg2-dvd option? And if I select this option (once i find it) will I need to alter any of the aspect ratio?

I will try to send a screen shot soon of my settings- In the mean time is there anything that you can recommend I try? I feel like Im super close with the settings i’ve mentioned before, and I think its a matter of changing from progressive to interfaced, as the video on the dvd i just burned and played on my t.v seems to look like its an interlaced vs progressive issue..?

if no MPEG2 DVD option is available, I’m just wondering what settings I need to customise with to make all my video fit into dvd size correctly?

    Thanks again for your help.

Also, just wondering how to do a screen dump- or screen shot so you can post examples of my problems.

    Hi Bec,

There seems to be some confusion here. All SD DVDs are 720×480 (576 in PAL). All. All area also MPEG2.
BluRay (the only HD DVD format) permits h.264 or MPEG2. There are several ‘legal’ sizes in BluRay including 1440×1080 and 1920×1080.

[Bec Mills] ” I have been told by various PP users that I should be able to exp[ort out with H2.64 and convert to DVD either in encore or with Toast or other software.”

For a DVD you must not export in h.264 – it has to be MPEG2 that is correctly set up for DVD (or you’ll end up re-encoding.) I’m going to assume because you have Toast, you’re on a mac.

To take a screen shot, Shift CMD 4 permits a selection.

Take a look at the settings here.

You might also try Send to Encore menu choice.
