I’m simulating a three channel video installation in One screen for a grant application. I layered the clips in FCP, clicked the motion tab and scaled each to 30%. I exported the video as a Quicktime movie, current settings, make self contained.

When I import it into DVDStudioPro and burn a DVD, the scaled images look terrible -very low res, and pixelated.

Perhaps it’s an aspect ratio problem. Rectangular vs square pixels; this is something I’m just starting to understand. When I export my video it’s exporting as 720 x 480, but DVD SP only let’s me choose 4:3. And isn’t 4:3 640 x 480?

The other strange thing is it doesn’t seem to be affecting the full screen video content, only the scaled portions.

I’m running out of trouble shooting options.

    Please help.

Make sure your timeline is DV NTSC, though my guess is it already is. The only other thing i can think of is to take a look at the center coordinates under the motion tab of the scaled clips. Set the individual coordinates to whole, even numbers. Weird, I know, but its always worked for me. And make sure you render the whole timeline before you export (which you are doing correctly).

    Thanks Dennis,

I set my center coordinates to even and I’m still having the same problem. I’ve found another thread dealing with this problem: https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/929322

There are many suggestions, but no clear solutions. I tried all of the suggestions on that thread (other than switching to After Effects, as I haven’t used that program). I’ve had this problem once before and really want to figure out how to avoid it in the future.

    Any other possibilities?

    Thanks,

    Maya
