i’m making a video in final cut. its anamorphic 16:9. I want to make a title sequence in after effects. what steps do I take to make sure my title sequence will fit and look right in my final cut timeline?

Also, how do I render it so it will play full screen on a widescreen tv?

    thanks in advance.

Just choose the correct composition pre-set when you go New Composition… either PAL or NTSC widescreen. An anamorphic composition will look squished on your computer monitor so you can choose one of the square pixel alternatives if you prefer.

Render it out as normal using the render queue and then import into FCP and edit onto the start of your film.

As for filling the widescreen TV, you just need to make sure it is mastered correctly. So if you are making a DVD you choose 16:9. In DVDSP I usually pick 16×9 letterbox so it will scale down on a non-widescreen TV.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

What do you mean by choosing one of the square pixel alternatives?

I start a new composition (NTSC) widescreen and uncheck the keep 4:3 aspect box. (right?)

when i render it out in the queue do i just leave it as lossless, best quality, etc.?

sorry if these questions are pesky I just have a hard time figuring out this part of the process. Thanks.

if you go New Composition and select the preset NTSC D1 widescreen you will have the correct setting. It should be 720×486 with a pixel aspect ratio at 16:9. This is fine and will look fine on the tv monitor, but will looked squished on the computer monitor. So there is a different preset which is NTSC D1 Widescreen Square pixels… the comp size is 864×486 and this will look correct on the computer monitor.

Both presets will get you what you are after…

If none of this makes any sense to you do a google/wiki on square pixels vs non-square pixels and I assure you it will all come together …

thanks michael. I found some good articles on square vs. rec. pixels.

Okay i’ve got my comp set up right. Now i can’t get my exported file to fit in my FCP without being stretched.
