I’m having some trouble with aspect ratios in Vegas. I wanted to import some widescreen footage (16:9) in the Quicktime format with the H264 codec (converted to that using Super since the original files were uneditable .mpg files) but when I pulled them into Vegas, the aspect ratio was 4:3. Why did such a thing happen and how can I fix it? When previewing the clips with a media player, everything still look fine and when I import them into Adobe Premiere, they look fine as well but Vegas for some reason doesn’t want to handle them.
Also, I’d like some recommendations on whether there is a better format to convert .mpg files to than H264 Quicktime.

I so hate these problems that arise from formats and aspect ratios. Can’t they just all get along?

You can tell Vegas to automatically set the project settings to match your media.
Go to file menu, choose properties. On the video tab click the
“match media settings” button. Browse to a media file that you are editing with select it and click the open button.
The frame size, frame rate, pixel aspect ratio, and field order for the project will now match your media.

Assuming that your media is 16X9 it will now appear in Vegas as 16X9.

    Regards, Rick.
