    Can anyone help me out with an exporting prob Im having? I shot a wedding with a sony hdr fx1 which is widescreen, my project is widescreen, but it seems like every time i export my sequence as a quicktime movie it comes out squished…no matter what I do. Im trying to export it for iDVD and Ive tried just about every combination of aspect ratios and sizes and it still comes out slightly squished. I mean…i guess I could export it at 480×272, which is correct looking, but it would be too small for the dvd and viewing on a tv.

    So try 720×408. Is the same aspect ratio that you say is OK (480×272) but keeping the original DV wiide.

    I get that all the time. QT has real problems with presenting a 16:9 film… and so does iDVD.

    Question… If you open the exported film in FC does it still look bad? If it does make sure the sequence settings are set for 16:9… also try exporting via QT convertion… you can pick the right codec… and the aspect ratio you want.

    For burning I would recommend Toast Titanium

    [Komaneq] “I get that all the time. QT has real problems with presenting a 16:9 film..”
    Qt display square pixels unless you change some setting.
    Are your clips HDV 1440×1080? This format it doesn’t use square pixels, so when you open the film it loks distorted in QT. This is normal.
    If you want that the film looks right in he QT player you must change some setting.
    – Open the movie with QT.
    – Go to Properties (Comm-J)>Video Track> Visual setting…
    – Uncheck “Preserve Aspect Ratio.
    {You said that 480×272 was he correct aspect ratio. Thats means 480/272= 1.7647059. This is the aspect ratio you must set}
    – Beside “Scaled size” you have two windows with two values xxxx (width) and yyyy (hight).
    – Pick the last value (yyyyy, I guess 1080, the original haight) and multiply it for 1.7647059.
    – Set this value instead of xxxx to get the display width ( i guess xxxx= 1.440, and the new value= 1.906).
    So if your clip was 10440×1080, set 1900×1080 and should look OK.
    If I’m wrong about the numbers, sorry. i’ve never worked with HDV. But up to the pixels aspect-ratio and size thatI can see in the FC HDV presets, should be fine this way.
