Aspect ratio issues
Hi.
I’ve run into a little problem.
I’m working with some media in DV Pal 720 x 576
When i export from Final Cut pro it seems to make it 787 x 576.
I’ve uploaded screen shots for my sequence settings my export settings and the info of the final export.
Can someone please help me understand. Is it some kind of bug in FCP or is it me who once again needs an explanation of aspect ratio?

Don’t worry, the files are fine.
It’s QT who is messing things up, it shows you the display aspect ration, not the actual aspect.
(and it takes non-square pixels on a computer monitor into account…)If you send this to another facility, you’ll be fine.

To add to what Bouke said, anamorphic SD in PAL is recorded at 720×576, but displays at 787×576. So, you’re seeing one reference to the actual frame dimensions and one reference to the display dimensions.

QT is not really messing up the things.
It’s about the never ending story of signal transmission and this in mind mixing the analog versus digital formats.
The standard is/was to have vertical blanking for each video line (how much is also a point of discussion).
The digital non square 720 from PAL will we corrected to 768 square.
With blanking an often used value is 2.5% so you will get 768*1,025 which results in 787.2.Anyway the file is okay.
