I’m having a real problem with exporting to 16:9 shaped web movies. No matter what I do, all my exports end up Full Height Anamorphic, when all I want is to watch them letterboxed in the correct width.

I must be doing something wrong somewhere along the line. I tick all the Preserve Aspect ratio boxes, I have my sequence set to anamorphic, but hey, everyone ends up looking tall and thin.

So, I lay my shame bare before you and ask to be shown the way…

    Thanks,

    Steve.

Follow this shining path to aspect ratio Nirvana:

Open your exported movie in Quicktime Player and hit Cmd – J to open the movie properties window. Highlight the video track. Uncheck the “Preserve Aspect Ratio” box. Change the pixel size in the first box to whatever your 16:9 version is supposed to be. For example, a DV NTSC movie would have a default aspect of 720×480 anamorphic but would be changed to 853×480 to become viewable as 16:9. Hit the return key and your movie will pop out to the proper aspect ratio. Click save and choose another destination so you don’t overwrite the original. Once saved you can keep the new version and trash the old one.

…and verilly I did behold the light! Thank you so much for explaining this to me…on further investigation of course I found it would have helped if I had digitised my widescreen footage as an anamorphic clip in the first place, which I had neglected to do – not through forgetfulness mind, but becuase I am just a bit stupid.

Until next time, thank you very much.

    Steve.

    Steve,

Any footage that’s mistakenly captured in 4:3 instead of 4:3 Anamorphic doesn’t have to be captured again. Go to the Browser, find your master clip and put a checkmark in the Anamorphic column. That clip will now be displayed as 16:9.
