  aspect ratio gliche during transitions

  i’m working with dvx 4:3 letterbox footage in a premier pro 2 NTSC standard 4:3 project.
  The footage appears fine when rendered in the project and viewed (looks like widescreen footy) but after export to AVI i’m having problems with transitions reverting between aspect ratios; during any transition or slowmo/sped up footage a black box appears around the shot.
  Can anyone offer any advice here?
