Hi, I am pretty new to final cut. I was given movs sized 864×486 and i need to convert them to sd. My plan was to letterbox. When i drop the files into the timeline, they are automatically condensed to 720×486. Is there a way for final cut to automatically letterbox the files?

I did find that in the motion tab i can manually adjust the aspect ratio, but I’d rather not guess what the correct aspect ratio is if there is a way to do it automatically.

    Thank you in advance.

Make a new standard def 4:3 sequence. Drag the clip into the canvas. You should get a dialog box that says: want to change the sequence settings. Just say No.

    All the best,

    Tom
