    Hello,

I’ve been using After Effects and Premier for awhile. I’d say I’m an intermediate user of Premier and a novice in After Effects although thanks to some of your tutorials I’m getting the hang of it.

My problem today is aspect ratios and resolutions. I’m using Premier and After Effects CS4.

My problem is that when I create a composition with a resolution of 1440×1080 in After Effects the work area looks like 4:3 even though 4:3 is not selected. It’s perfectly square when it shouldn’t be. In Premier when I do the same thing the preview window is rectangle as it should be.

For instance, if I were to export a movie from AE at 1440×1080 and then import it into AE it looks square. It has the black bars on each side.

I’m sorry if I’m not explaining myself right, let me know if you need further clarification.

    Thanks.

    Jason

You should check your pixel aspect ratios. In your footage window, right click the footage, select interpret footage–>main. There will be a drop down menu for pixel aspect ratio at the bottom of the dialogue box. Once you’ve seen what the pixel aspect ratio of the footage is, verify that you have it set to the same ratio for your composition. You can access the composition settings by clicking composition at the top of the application, and choosing composition settings, or by hitting ctrl+k. There will be a drop down menu for pixel aspect ratio there, too.
