  • Aspect Ratio Changes on QT Export

My sequence appears to be changing aspect ratio on export. Here are the details:

The other day I finished a fine cut went to

    File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion

and chose iPod Setting and got a sweet little 16×9 QT of my 16×9 HD sequence.

Client screened it, made comments, I duplicated the sequence, made changes and tonight when I did the same process I got a little 3×4 QT of my 16×9 HD sequence. Why isn’t it coming in 16×9? I also made an uncompressed version by going to

    Export>QuickTime Movie

    and choosing

    Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1440×1080 24p 48KHz

This gave me the desired 16×9 sequence. Both the sequence last week that produced the desired 16×9 results and the revised duplicate have the following settings:

    Aspect Ratio: HD (1440×1080) (16:9)
QuickTime Video Settings, Compressor: HDV 1080p24 .

The original footage was shot HDV 1080p24.

I may need to offer more info to help you help me, but I’m not sure what that would be. I’ve successfully produced the QT I need for mastering, but would really like to post my client, per her request, a version she can load on her iPod.

Open your movie with QT. Them Com+J to open the Properties. Click in Video Track> Visual Setting. Adjust the Scaled Size and check Preserve aspect Ratio.
This works with the most of the .mov. I never tryied with I-Pod movies but I guess is the same.

    Rafael,

That’s a great tip. I had no idea you could do that in QuickTime.

    Thanks,

    Martin
