I’m running into a problem with the discrepancy between the aspect ratio of the video as seen on a DVD player and as seen on a computer monitor.

My DVD video looks correct in the project in Vegas and when played on a DVD player. However, when the same DVD is played on a PC (or for that matter from the preview mode of DVD Architect), the aspect ratio is off – it’s a little less wide than it should be.

I’ve been reading the aspect ratio threads in the forum, so I more or less get why this is happening, but my question is this: Can you make a DVD that will play correctly on both DVD players and computers? With all of my projects, people are likely to watch them on one or the other or both. Should I be making 2 versions of the video for the DVD and label one “for DVD players” and one “for computers”?? What project and render settings are you supposed to use to me the DVD aspect ratio look correct on a computer?

    Thanks much,

What might be happening is that the PC players are not smart enough to check that the video is not using square pixels and therefore when it displays the 1.2121 pixels aspect of DV widescreen as 1.000 you get a less wide image. The only way to ensure this doesn’t happen is to render a PC version that uses square pixels and adjust the width of the video accordingly (i.e., 873×480).
