Aspect Ratio
I’m shooting a 5D or 7D and want to change the aspect ratio to 2:1 or 2.15:1
Any suggestions on the best way to do this besides in the editing?
I was thinking I could just buy a mat for the lens but haven’t found any on the internet.

which is a close to $4,000 lens and I wasn’t even sure if it would change the aspect ratio by itself or not…..and I wouldn’t want to rent it if it doesn’t work like I want it too….I have to travel out of state for this shoot so I don’t really have a chance to reshoot it down the road…

just to clarify the above post…I mean a hardmatte for the matte box…
and I’ve heard you can change the settings for aspect ratio in the camera?
Is this true?…haven’t found the place where I can do that….Thanks,

been doing some research and found some companies online that make custom focusing screens for different aspects ratios and mattes for the matte box….

Why in the heck would you do it in camera? You’re not getting anything out of it. Just tape the lcd screen so that you frame correctely and then crop it in post. There is no way to do it in camera and those lenses (whilst very nice) will not change the ratio.

Any masks applied in front of the lens will only give you a 2:1 image with a black area (probably with soft edges top and bottom of frame. You’ll have to fix it in post anyway.
Just mask or mark your viewfinder or monitor headroom and foot room when shooting.
