Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Aspect Ratio

I’m fairly new to FCP and have a question about the aspect ratio settings.

I am working with 720×480 DV/DVCPRO-NTSC sources and my sequence frame size has been set to NTSC-CCIR 601/DV (720×480).

My images are getting squished on the vertical and I’m almost certain this has to be a square vs. non-square pixel issue.

When I turn off “correct for aspect ratio” in the viewer, everything looks just right.

So… my question is, am I seeing what my final export will look like with the “correct for aspect ratio” turned off. or am I just fooling myself with my solution?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

No, those are two difference things.

DV is one format and I believe it’s square pixels.

    CCIR601 is standard definition 720×486, non-square pixels.

Are you just set to the DV-NTSC Easy Setup?

Actually I stand corrected, I just looked at the FCP settings and it is DV-CCIR 601.

Correct for Aspect Ratio is what you want to see. That’s non-square pixels so you want to see the footage in its true resolution, not in square..
