“AE CS4
Time rendering:
04:56 (Multi Processing=OFF)
06:11 (Mukti Processing=ON)”
you can get slower performance with mp on if you don’t have enough ram to feed the extra cores, this would appear to be evidence of that. 2gb per core was highly recommended even for cs3, but with 64bit windows each core can grab up to 4gb (i believe yours is a dual core, so 8gb max for ae, but you wouldn’t mind having a bit for the os and other apps too).
another factor that can effect performance is having the disk cache enabled and set to use the same drive as your media/render drive. if you only have a single drive bus (the internal bus), it would be best to disable disk caching.
there is an update to cs4 (9.0.2) that addresses some render issues and may help with render performance. if you haven’t already updated, you should.
i’d be curious how cs3 ran on your new machine and, possibly, how cs4 performs on your older system.
also, you might want to run the task manager while rendering to see exactly what’s going on. if you see that the cpu performance is low, then there is probably a data bottleneck. if the ram isn’t reaching it’s potential, then the data bottleneck is probably at a drive bus. using information like this you can better address settings, or possible upgrades….
but the performance difference on an older system with cs3 vs. the newer system with cs4 is curious…
