ASCII Text or Matrix Effect
Does anyone know of a plugin that exists for After Effects that will turn an image into ASCII art? Similar to this:

Or if not, is there a standalone program that could accomplish this? The only things I can find are limited to Linux or only do one image at a time instead of full video.

Search the COW AE archives (advanced search) on “ASCII”. This was discussed a while ago.

Yeah, I saw that someone had asked a similar question… but it didn’t appear that there was any resolution.

I saw a t utorial somewhere that used a number grid and particle playground with a black and white image to do this. It was really cool. don’t know how to do it, or where it was. I’ll see if it’s in my notebook.
