ASAP – savebefore crash
I am working in 6.5 on a hp8400 and my AE is locked up. I have done a lot of stuff and have not saved in the past few hours. Is there anything I can do to keep my work before I close it out? I copied the project from the Program Files to the Desktop in hopes that that might work. If not what can I do before shutting it down?

The project you copied was probably the file that was saved to disc last time you saved. Sadly, the project you’re working on is in RAM so you’ll lose the work when you close, since AE 6.5 doesn’t auto-save.
Shut ‘er down, re-do the work, and save incrementally every hour (it’s up to you) from now on. AE 6.5 has a “file> increment and save” command. The interval between incremental saving should represent the amount of work you’re willing to do over.

While a bit off topic… I might note that when editing I prefer to use Avid Liquid (formerly Pinnacle Liquid) for one very big reason… you will virtually NEVER lose your work. It’s the only editing software that has an auto-save that occurs something like 30 times per second (or some unbelievably short period of time simular to 30 times per second). And… even with this extremely current auto-save capability, you will see no drag or slowing of your system. I really wish AE had this capability (…or, I wish Avid Liquid could do what AE can do)…. but, so far this seems to be an exclusive to Avid Liquid auto save capability.
