  • As an AE dude… 3DS Max or C4D?

Yo, i know its an open question. But still…

I ‘ve ben trying to find my way into 3DS Max (had fun with those reactors).
But these days, everything I find COOL is made in C4D. (Or so it seems.) Is this purely a trend, (without abusing this word). Or does C4D have more to offer on a “part time” basis.

I use c4d and AE…the bridge between both apps is definetly worth at least checking out…(i dont know if this is what you wanna hear though)….and from personal experience, I hate that darn 3dsmax interface. At least the cinema-4d learning curve is much more reasonable.

I’ve never used Max but can tell you that C4D is a complete dream. However I wouldn’t think it has some magical quality that makes it best at motion graphics per se. It’s a lot more artistic friendly than Maya though. If anything, it’s because it’s so simple and layed out so well, you spend more time on the art and less on the technical. However can think of a guy who does awesome motion graphics (almost)only with Max (https://www.renascent.nl)

Personally, I agree with Steve on the interface issue. Coming from the AE world, the C4D has become a great addition to my digital arena. I had a chance to look at the Max’s interface and it made me more glad that I chose C4D over any other 3D programs.

Although all that could be done in C4D as well. Although the text that writes itself on I haven’t figured out an easy way to do that in C4D. I asked Joost how he did that and he said he used one of Max’s knife modifiers (or something of the sort).

I will say even though C4D is a great tool, sometimes I am suprised that it can not execute really easy things that have been around in other programs for years…
