    Hi,

    Workflow:

    Sony F-3, 1920×1080 25 fps
Converted to: Apple Prores 422 (HQ) 1920×1080 25 fps
Edited in Final Cut Pro 7
    Graded in Apple Color
Sent back to Final Cut Pro 7

When exported directly out of FCP as a raw .mov file, everything looks just fine, but as soon as I try to convert it into something smaller with a codec like H.264 I get artifacts, especially around the edges of light on walls etc. Quality is really bad in any case.

I usually export from Final Cut Pro 7 and run it through Episode with the setting:

    H264 MOV 1920×1080 16×9

This usually does the job, but I’m at a loss here.

    Please help. 🙂

try turning up the data rate or quality settings in Episode. Generally speaking, scenes with more complexity require higher data rates, or you start getting artifacts like you describe. Settings that work well for some material may not do the trick on other stuff, so you may need to do some tests until you find a combination of settings that work well and give reasonable file sizes.
