  • Artifacts using frame blend on DPX

    CS5 & 4 – same issue.
    I’m working 4k DPX files from R3D in 23.976.

I have a quick shot that is sped up by only two frames. Don’t ask me why – it’s a director call.

So in the shot we lose 2 frames and you can see the 2 jumps in motion.

I turn on the Frame Mix in frame blend which creates ghosting. We don’t want that.
I turn on the Pixel motion and that solves it, BUT there are artifacts creating harsh lines and blocky edges.
Why am I getting this? What can I do? Thanks.

I just discovered the new Timewarp plugin in AE. Seems to be working…..

That or you can try time remapping…

Opps, I failed to mention that. I used Time Remapping and then the pixel motion which created wavily artifacts.

Try using time remap with no Frame Mix or Pixel Motion turned on.
Also, instead of using the in and out keyframes of the time remap, set keyframes one frame in and one frame before the last frame, then move the last two keyframes to get the desired length- don’t ask me why, but sometimes that helped getting rid of the funky artifacts.
Just curious- have you used a plain old time stretch?

I have not used the time-stretch. I didn’t know what percent to speed it up to. I just knew that the whole shot needed to be two frames faster. I’ll mess with it and see what happens.
