    Hi All,
Im working in the vfx/postproduction of a feature film that was shot on 35mm.
The movie will end at (2K 1.33) and (2K 1.85, that will be made by cropping the 2K 1.33).
Most of the shots are going to be upscaled for reframing, but none will be upscaled more than 120%.
The producers told me that they have a very tight budget, and affording a 4k scan is complicated for them.

So I’m thinking in telling them to scan in 3K instead of 4K. But now I’m wondering if there are 2 kinds of 3K scanning on an Arriscan4K:
A- The 3K that gets oversampled and then downscaled to 2k (the only 3K possible in ARRISCAN2K, but also possible on ARRISCAN 4K)
B- The 3k that is downscaled from the oversampled 6k (only possible on ARRISCAN 4K)

If thats correct, I have two questions:
1- The option A should cost less than option B, right? (and actually closer to a 2K scan)
2- If I choose the option A and then I downscale it by an 80% (to get the same result as a 2K upscaled at 120%). Is it going to look better than if i just scan 2K and then upscale to 120% with a PC software ?

Any thoughts on this will be much appreciated.

(Btw, I hope my english was clear enough as its not my main language)
