Hi, I must being an idiot here so forgive me, but I’ve searched on here, the Adobe forum and Google with no success.

I have downloaded some stock ArriRaw footage, it is a short clip shot at 24fps and a resolution is 2880 * 2160 (1.33). The footage is anamorphic and appears squeezed in the preview monitor in Premiere Pro.

How do I unsqueeze this footage so I can edit with it as a normal image? I know that normal anamorphic is a 2x squeeze, so is it as simple as making the height half the width – so in this case make the height 66.7% the width (if my maths is right!). If so, I’ve done this and the footage still looks slightly squeezed? There must surely be a better way to do this?

(I’m using the new Premiere Pro CC but instructions should be identical to CS6)

    Thanks for any answers,
    James

It might be a case of PPro not guessing the Pixel aspect ratio correctly.

when you left click the clip in the project panel, it will tell it’s attributes near the top of the panel (if the picon is showing and your in list view)

Right click the clip in the project panel and choose Interpret footage(or is it footage settings in PPro…sorry doing this memory at the moment)….this should allow you to correct it if it’s wrong.

then it should display and edit correctly.

Thank you Alex, that is exactly what I was looking for. I thought it would be strange that you would have to actually resize the clips. It was originally interpreting them as square 1.0 pixels.

Are you aware of any way you can make the program remember what the aspect ratio should be for that kind of footage in the future? Or is it possible to use something like Prelude to set it before you import the footage?

    Hi James…

not versed in Prelude….but doesn’t seem like you want to transcode anyway.

How are you getting the files to the project panel? Import or Media Browser?

Browser may be smarter than straight import, not sure.

I don’t know about making Premiere “learn”

what extension are the arri raw files?

I’d tried Arriraw with Prelude but couldn’t get it to work. The manual mentions support for it, but the software doesn’t ingest it for some reason.
