  • Argh! Exported ProRes .mov files wrong file size

I’m working on a client’s setup with FCP 6.0.6 running on OS 10.6.8. When I export a Quicktime Movie, it then shows up with the wrong file size in the Finder. The Finder says it’s 12 MB in size, but if I then open the file in Quicktime Player, it plays fine and a Get Info in QT Player shows the correct file size of 950 MB. I tried to compress in Handbrake, and it didn’t work. I also copied the files to a PC and there it also shows the wrong file size, so view the file like on the Mac. Anyone know what’s going on? I repaired permissions and ran cron jobs the other day and it didn’t fix this problem.

So,….What size do you need it to be?
Drop in Compressor and create a .h264 mov file, dial in the data rate as needed.

It sounds like you may have created a QT reference movie rather than a self contained one.
When you export make sure the self contained option is set.
Should then see a movie file of the correct size.

    best wishes

Thank you, I think you solved it. It exported okay after trashing prefs, so I guess the old prefs I was using defaulted to not export self-contained.
