  • Are these settings correct for editing HDV PF25 in FCP 6.0.3 ?

My Canon HV20 can shoot normal HDV and also a progressive type called “PF25” (PAL).

For PF25 the “best” Easy Setup I can find is HDV-1080p25. Is this correct ?

When I drag the captured clips into the timeline a warning window asks if I want to change the sequence settings to match the clips. The only difference I can see is that the sequence has field dominance as “None” whereas the clips have it as “Upper/Odd”.

This seems strange because progressive frames should have no fields to dominate !

So should I change the sequence settings to “Upper/Odd” or should I make all the clips “None”?

Comments about this would be welcome together with anything you think I may have missed.

    Ian.

The progressive mode in the Canon is actually 1080 50i. It gives the progressive image as two identical fields that are interlaced. This is sometimes referred to as progressive segmented of psf.

The correct setting in FCP is 1080 50i upper field dominant.

Thanks Michael, that was a completely unexpected answer.

I take it that I use the 1080i50 setting for everything and resist the urge to use anything “progressive”?
