Are there any comprehensive/complete video training courses that are up-to-date for Vegas Pro 10?

Hey Terence–

I bought the training DVD from this guy

And it was enough to get me from paddling in circles to moving in a wavy line forward.

He offers live training sessions as well. Not a warm/fuzzy dude, but he seems to know his stuff.

Certainly looks good for a person who is starting out.

I wouldn’t mind if he did an intermediate to advanced course. I think I have 90% of his Vegas 10 course sorted.

Looking more like I will just have to invest time trawling through the manual to make sure I’m not missing out on features that will be very helpful to my career.

For example, I have 16 hours of recorded event on 3/4 cameras. I was doing a multicamera edit and then going back and putting blends in where there were cuts – only to discover that all I needed to do was hold down the control key while changing cameras and the default blend would automatically be applied. That’s the kind of knowledge I don’t want to be missing out on.

In answer to your query Mike, I have been in contact with Barry (the trainer) and he says that the version 8 course is pretty comprehensive although it is not up to day, most of the stuff still applies. I guess that goes without saying. But that’s all that seems to be out there at the moment.

Seems to me like there’s an opening for someone to really nail Vegas Pro 10 comprehensive training.

I’ll probably end up buying his comprehensive version 8 course (14 hours of training).

What you have to understand is that 98% of Vegas’ functions haven’t changed in the past 4 releases (maybe the past 6 releases). Each release may add a handful of new functions but many of them are not GUI changes. They are changes in handling HD better, etc. It doesn’t pay to recreate an entire training package to add a handful of functions so that it’s the latest release.

You should also look at our Sony Vegas training on the VASST web site:

Once again, these are based on earlier releases of Vegas and teach functions that haven’t changed in the new release. The difference with VASST training is that we break it into specific training. You buy only what you need and we update only what is necessary. For example, we added a ProType Titler disc that covers that specific function. The basic DVD’s teach basic functionality that hasn’t changed much since Vegas 6.

Actually that would be a waste of time with Vegas Pro 11 right around the corner. 😉

And/or, I’d love to attend a one or two day live course with an expert (and maybe some other editors) and be able to just ask questions as they arise and be able to have a live person just show me a few things.
