    Hi there

Basically ive got a 2d image of a globe that im gonna bring into after effects. its hand drawn and i can always hand draw more of it if necessary.

basically i was just wondering if there was any clever way of creating the illusion that the globe is actually spinning around, only like a little bit, just slowly moving around….i now u could use a mask and have the countries running behind, but how would u give it the curved look?

any tips would be much appreciated! i know AE isnt a 3d program but if there’s anyway that’d be great!

    thanks

I’d hand-draw (again) the continents based on a NASA-type map of the world (long and rectangular), then apply CC Sphere to that and rotate its Y-axis to get a real, yet-hand-drawn sphere.

    Short note:
To get good results form CC Sphere, the original illustration needs to be 2×1 ration, twice as wide as high. It’s a function of how the polar coordinates get wrapped. If your illustration is not 2×1, you may want to redraw or carefully crop it before attempting to move it into CC Sphere.

And don’t forget to avoid the mistake 90% of globe animators make: The Earth rotates so the sun rises on the east coast of the States first.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
