  • Are 2010 Vixia models as good as 2009?

    Hi,

I’m very happy with my Vixia HG20, but I need to purchase a second HD camcorder for use in a fully lit home studio.

I’ve been very impressed by the reviews of the 2009 Vixia models — mainly the S10 and S100. In particular, they are reported to have 900 lines of resolution, and near-broadcast quality when used in bright studio lighting.

The reviews of the 2010 models are good, but reviewers don’t seem to be as impressed as they were by the 2009 models, despite new enhancements. In particular, I can not find a mention anywhere about the 2010 models having 900 lines of actual resolution, which seems to imply that the image is not as good as with last year’s models.

Prices for the new models are about the same as last year’s models, so price is not really an issue.

Should I get an S10/S100, or is there a reason to go with the 2010 models? For me, it is all about picture quality (I will be recording by HDMI tethered to a Blackmagic Decklink Studio card).

    Thanks,
    Graham.
