Archiving motion generators WITH FCPX 10.1 libraries and relinking.

    Hi…

Just used a couple of motion generators in a project. Added into FCPXs via FCPX generator library as they are useful for future work…. smoke and sparkles.

Finished project and moved the library (complete with all original media) of my video onto my “archives” on a drive of another computer. Does not seem to be different if I close or open the libraries.

Just to check that the project had all the clips I opened it again and all seemed fine …. and NO warning triangle (neither yellow or white). But when it rendered project.. did not render the section with the motion generators only leaves a brown bar. Then I noticed them. Of the 2 generators used I got RED background box and yellow triangle, the other one was grey with white triangle. Don’t know why they were different.

When I copied over the generators to the other machine, and added them to the motion generator folder I can’t seem to relink them again? but they are there….FCPX sees them.how do i get these to be seen by my project??

As there was no warming triangle on the project anywhere, I was lucky to see these missing effects over laid on a tiny object. Seems a bug if the warning triangle does not show. !!!

So how do I archive these effects if the project needs reopening. even if I copy over the generator effects.and they don’t relink?

Am I missing something here that I am not doing workflow correctly? But can’t relink them? So not sure what to do.

    Anita Sancha.

You do have to know to archive any custom Motion effects you create – they are located in user/movies/Motion Templates. If you place them in this location on another machine they should certainly relink to your project – confirm that they appear in the Generators Browser in FCP X on the other machine.

The other thing you need to remember to archive are any user-installed fonts you may have used that might not be on the other machine.

If I drag the generators I made and (have been copied into the motion templates ) into the timeline they work, but the original same generators that I placed on the timeline when on the other machine still don’t link and work. so no relinking and still box and triangle box and grey and white triangle. and not rendering.

If I try and copy the attributes of the original, I can replace the information of most of the original file, but not the “start end duration.’ I have to use the info to re edit this.

Is there any way to get a clip to match the exact end start duration .? as well as copy all attributes ? there seems no copy function for this. If I could edit the info panel to match they would be exact.

ITS not a good solution as its manual. and I delete the original generators, But for ref … there may be problems relinking generators.
