Archiving FCP7 projects to FCP X?

June 22, 2011 at 6:54 amI hear that FCP X is not backward compatible.
I am currently moving from tape based cameras to SD card cameras, so archiving 40+ short videos.I was just going to media manage projects and save FCP project file and copied media to DVD.
I wanted to be able to edit the projects in the future if needed.
Would I now be best to just save a quicktime movie of the projects, in the format they were filmed in?

June 25, 2011 at 11:24 pmIn order to go from older versions of FCP to FCPX, I would suggest flattening to a quicktime file, or just keep working in FCP until you’re done. It’s not going away. The old work around to go from old versions of FCP to newer used to be to export an XML File, but that looks to have been lost in FCPX. Maybe XML support will come in a later iteration. Also, for the first time, there is no backwards compatibility. This is because of the new Core Data architecture in FCPX. You can read about it at https://www.fcpxtutor.com.
