archiving analog video….
working with old hi8 and the sony dcrtrv480 (digital 8)
new laptop and new fcp studioWondered if anyone out there is using this unit to digitize 8mm and hi8 footage……
It’s not a supported camera by Apple which I stupidly didn’t look into (my mistake) I am getting it to work but am a little concerned that everything is allright
I am using the settings of noncontrollable device
and a custom sequence preset of 32khz audio with 24 bit
even though its supposed to be 12 bit a kind guy at phone support recomended this ………..he said that was better than 16 bit however in the capture preset there is only the option of 16…….
another weird problem is that i cant get the computer to play back any of this stuff in full screen digital cinema mode correctly it usually just freezes on one frame of video
and the audio keeps going sometimes it won’t work at all
I am totally freaking out because I have gone through part of a huge archive for about a year not knowing that this camera wasnt supported until i got the new software with tech support i’m wondering if all the work i did isn’t any good ……
starting to think that i am ok but if the camera isn’t supported the guys at apple understandably can’t say too much but the footage seems to edit ok in the new version of final cut……ANY HELP or comments would be greatly appreciated…………….Apple does support the canopus adv110 which uses svideo and which i feel would not be the best image quality ……i could dub to dv but i have hundreds of hours of footage so this might not be the best option…………too much headache and i already got enough of those today!
