Are their any options other than fire drive & DLT for backing up imported media? Wasn’t someone working on a XDCAM type disc for data…or was I dreaming that? Lately I have gigs of media per project & I don’t want to throw it away. I guess I could put it all on a handful of DL DVDs. Any other options?

The cheapest and most stable file storage system is hard drives. For $100 you can get 100 or more gigs. Copy your stuff off to the drive, put the drive in a Foodsaver vacuum bag and label it and put it on a shelf.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I use mirrored SATA drives with Firmtek cards and enclosures. Brings the price way down. For example a 250-gig SATA is going for less than $90 and a 500-gig SATA is about $190.

Store them someplace dry and cool. And I’d avoid vacuum-packing them in bags. You don’t want to apply pressure to the broad, flat areas of a bare hard drive as it would damage the drive mechanism.

Thanks. What’s a good case? Probably something with a pull out tray? Are they all about the same?
