  arbitrary maps

  I am working with a tutorial from ayatoweb.com and it calls for using the Arbitrary map setting for the “glow colors” section of the glow effect. I’m having trouble creating maps that provide any color. When i apply the ones i’ve made in photoshop they are just black and white. does anyone know what i’m doing wrong?
