Arabic Text
Posted by Antoine Guy on June 23, 2010 at 12:19 pmI am trying to use text overlays in Vegas 10 to create Arabic subtitles. When I insert Arabic text (cut from Word) into the Vegas text editor everything is perfect. However, the video preview window shows that Vegas automatically changes the direction from right to left. How can it appear fine in the editor and then invert in the film?!!

I’m facing the same problem right now. Did you find a solution for that ?
Thanks! -

January 7, 2011 at 7:41 pmA search in this forum turned up two suggestions.
#1 is to create the title as an image in your photo editor (i.e. Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro) on a transparent background and then import that into Vegas.
#2 is to write your text in Notepad and then copy / paste into the Vegas titler. -

January 7, 2011 at 8:07 pmHi Mike!
Thanks for your help. I wrote my text in notepad, then copy/paste in vegas titler. But as Antoine said: everything looks fine in the vegas text editor. But whenever I quit the text editor, the video preview does not connect arabic letter as it should (and as it did in the text editor). It shows each letter separately… and in the wrong direction (from right to left, instead of the opposite). Consequently, it cannot be read !
Here’s a screenshot for you to understand better what I’m trying to say (though I guess, you can’t read arabic). How come it shows a thing in the text editor, and another one in the video preview (the film) ?
Thanks again for your help! -

January 7, 2011 at 8:40 pmmyriam, there used to be a few users on here who did this but I haven’t seen them on here for a very long time.
I looked through the Sony Vegas forum and could only find the following response (directly from a Sony rep) which is what my option
#1 suggested.Vegas does not currently support right-to-left languages in the titler, nor does it support ligatures.
Both are required for the proper display of Arabic text.
We would advise the use of a tool such as Photoshop. -

January 8, 2011 at 8:49 amHi Miriam,
The best solution, which I eventually found on the internet is to use the following link:
https://convert.wajihah.com/
Just paste the Arabic text into the LARGE white box and hit the button. It switches it around, so that by the time you paste the result into Vegas and Vegas edits it, it should then look fine.Antoine

May 3, 2011 at 3:22 amI have the same problem with Hebrew, but found out that you can use the Protype Filter; not only will the language work right, but you can use it as a preset to just position the text so all you have to do is type =)
