Applying Video FX to parent and child tracks.
Posted by Rob Cioffi on January 26, 2016 at 4:54 pmIs it possible to apply a VFX to a parent track so children will inherit it as well? Say I wanted to add a rain or TV simulator type effect. Thanks.

Yes. If you add an empty track above another and use the Make Compositing Child button to make the top track a Parent, you can add FX to the parent track and the child track will inherit them.

January 28, 2016 at 11:30 pmThanks John. Once again you’ve gone above and beyond. So….
Ok. That worked… kind of. When I use the Track FX button in the empty track’s header to add an FX it does NOT work. But if I drop the FX on the empty track’s timeline it will apply the FX to the child tracks. (I’m using Vegas Pro 12 BTW.)
It also does not seem to let me create an FX chain. It only applies the last FX added to the child tracks.
I’ll mess around with this over the weekend to see if it something on my end.

Try dragging the Composite node all the way to the left so that it’s fist. This will composite all of the tracks and then apply the FX.
