    Hi all,

Is there a way to view actual rushes with a mask? They were shot 16:9 but should have 1.85 mask but it should not be encoded in the rushes.

    Thank you!

String them out in a sequence, and put the mask on the layer above

Thank you. That would be sweet and simple, but the editor doesn’t want to cut from string outs, wants the mask on the actual clips, without it being encoded in the footage. I was now told that there’s actually a plug in for Avid 8 which can do that so curious to find out if that works.

Look to using “Target Mask” which came in some version of 8.x. set the aspect ratio in the format tape of the project window. Right click select in the source/record monitors to activate.
