So, I’m pretty sure this isn’t possible, and I’ve made a feature request… and to be honest I’m just kinda hoping others will chime in that they want this feature too in the hopes Adobe will take note.

Like a lot of folks, I was a FCP7 user, and became very accustomed to using a technique based off an old physical film editing method. That is to initially review footage by laying a long sequence of clips down on a timeline and hitting play– then simply applying a marker on the fly to the footage whenever something I liked happened (in FCP7, you simply selected all the clips on the timeline prior to hitting play/markering). This is an incredibly efficient way to get your edit going because after just one playthrough, you have simple visual indicators of which takes/moments are good, without necessarily having to deal with taking notes.

So, in Premiere CS6 (which I’m very impressed by, so far, btw) you indeed can apply markers on the fly to clips on a timeline after a little tweaking of settings… but only if a single clip is selected. If multiple clips are selected, then you cannot apply markers. Which means that a process that took place in the realtime duration of your total footage now takes a lot longer, not to mention kinda ruining your rhythm, particularly in mentally comparing the pacing of takes of the same shot.

Adobe folks, if you’re reading, please oh please implement this feature. And of course, if anyone has a workaround, I’d appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
