  applying effects to pre-compositions in 3D space

  hello, I am using AE 6.5 Pro and I am unable to apply effects to my 3D pre-comps-they just disappear completely. I have tried to apply the effects in both the original comp. as well as to the pre-comp inside the new comp (note: I am clicking the 3D box and the rasterize box in order to make the pre-comp layer behave as a true 3D layer)…is there a special 3D preference I need to check within prefences? is there a 3D plug-in I need? This doesn’t have to do rendering-at least not yet-I can’t even get that far.
