  • Applying an effect to a roto brushed area

I have used the roto brush to select a section of my video which is 10 seconds long. I just want to reduce the brightness on this particular area, and leave the rest of the video as it is. The process I have currently gone through is:

    Roto brush
    Duplicate
Remove Roto brush on bottom layer
    Select top layer
    Then add filter.

However when I’m doing this, in the layer window, I can only see the roto-brushed area, which appears to be changing. but it’s applying the filter to all. In the footage window I can see the whole shot, but no changes are being applied.

Any suggestions as to what I’m doing wrong?
