  • Apply gradient along stroke?

Suppose I have these two paths:

And I’d like to give them a 3D effect by having a gradient along the edges.
But the only thing I can think of is making an art brush with a gradient, which I can’t do. (If I expand appearance, I lose opacity.)
    Is this at all possible?

    Greetings,
    Marty

Maybe something like this would work…

    1329_offsetpathblend.ai.zip

Select the main structure, then Object/Path/Offset Path to a negative value.
Select both objects and Blend with Specified Steps.
Add points where necessary, so both objects have the same amount of points.
Set the color of the outer blend object to a darker tint color.
Set the outer object transparency of the highlight object to zero.

Inner or Outer glows might also work.
These could also be saved as Graphic Styles that you could apply to multiple objects if necessary.

If you select the object and go to Object>Path>Outline Stroke you should be able to get what you want. Hope it works out for you.
