apply font change to multiple titles

I’m officially giving up, and choosing to do each title manually in FCP. My reasoning–I have to change the font size and color manually (which entails changing three values PER color change) in text editor for every individual subtitle clip anyway, so it’s the same amount of trouble to just do it in FCP. Plus it doesn’t even seem to be bringing the changes when I re-import it back into FCP once I’ve modified the code in text editor. I can see how it might make sense if I were changing to font only, then I could just ‘replace’. But not in my case.

Unless, of course, there’s something I didn’t get, or some way to do it better….?

otherwise,
can you make one new text generator with the font, size & colour settings you like,
then copy / paste the text from the old to the new.

maybe you ‘d have to make a one line version and a 2 line version,
but it might be an easier approach.

obvious;y i dont know all the details of your project,
but here’s how i might approach it:

create the one liner and the 2 liner.

load the one liner in the viewer
solo the text track.
use the down arrow to jump from clip to clip,
use F12 (super impose) to cut the new generator over the top of the old.

load the 2 liner.

use track tool to select all the originals.
hold Shift + Option,
drag a COPY of all to an empty track ABOVVE the new one liners.
now select all the new one liners.
Shift Option drag them up to overwrite the copy you just made.
while still selected, hit delete.
now you’ve got a new track of JUST the 2 liners.

solo that track, down arrow and superimpose the new 2 liners.

tidy it all up to 2 tracks: one old, one new subtitle.

open an old,
tab,
copy
open a new tab,
paste.

etc

I have had the same problem time ago, I did all the procedures you mentioned , exporting as xml file then opening it in text editor ,making the changes I need,
my question is: how can I make this procedure affect all my subtitles at once, because I figured out that I have to change every single titles alone.

you export an XML file of the SEQUENCE/

then when you open that into a text editor,
you do a find and replace ALL.

this will change all “font A” to “font B”
or “size X” to “size Y”

after you save the text file, change the extension back to .xml,
so it imports into FCP correctly.

I have to change the style of my font , (from plain to bold ) I have almost 350 titles all on the same track.
I tried to export them as xml file then I opened that file in text edit then I did shift +F to find the plain and replace all with bold, then I saved the file as xml and imported into final cut pro as xml file,
well… the problem that it did not change any thing .
I did a test with the size of the font , and it works but with the style from plain to bold ,nothing happened.
does it make sense or I did something wrong in somewhere, please help

Use Color Corrector for color changes, I had to do this across a 30 min video and it worked!
just make one color correction then drag / apply to all the other clips.

I see this is an old thread, but it popped up in my search to solve this same issue.

The xml solution works great, but with one side note:

After you re-import the xml, it creates a duplicate sequence with the same name as the original. So, if you have “Sequence 1” already open and the xml file creates an identical “Sequence 1” in the browser, make sure you are checking the correct “Sequence 1” for changes.

I also thought it wasn’t working as was reported by others here, but then I noticed the duplicate. Might save others some time and confusion.
