  • Apply blur to a lens flare?

I have a shot where I’m rendering a lens flare using the in-box lens flare plug-in. The effect looks great save the fact it’s a little too ‘crisp’ and, for lack of a better descriptor, ‘CG.’ There’s no way to apply a blur or some other effect to mitigate the crispness and make it fit in with the video footage in a more natural way. I know there’s a ‘blending with background’ variable but all that seems to do is lower the opacity of the flare. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Apply the lens flare to its own layer and then apply the blur plug-in.

You might try putting the Lens Flare on a Black Solid above the video layer, then follow that with A Blur (still on the black solid) and use the Mode Screen. This seems to soften the lens flare.
